Arizona Sen. John McCain, a stalwart representing the state for more than 32 years, died Aug. 25. He was 81.

The six-term U.S. senator revealed last year he had been diagnosed with glioblastoma, a deadly form of brain cancer.

Known throughout his career for taking unorthodox stances, McCain earned a the reputation early for being a political maverick and not toeing the standard Republican line.
