Ep. 155 - Rob Heller - Problem Solving

Rob Heller / Talon Plumbing

Graduate of Marist High School in Atlanta, GA where I was on the first state championship football team in the school’s history.  I went to Columbia University in New York City, played football my freshman year and graduated in 1994 with a BA in Political Science.  I went to work at Cantor Fitzgerald in the back-office processing government bonds trades and worked my way up through the broker trainee program and onto an emerging market desk in London where I traded local currency debt in Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Turkey and Russia.

In 1999 I decided to start a business.  I started Talon Industrial Products selling maintenance chemicals to chief engineers and maintenance supervisors at hotels, office buildings and apartment complexes.  A few years later I enrolled at Georgia State’s J Mack College of Business to earn an MBA at night.  It took 5 years to earn that MBA and provided the academic decision support that I needed to buy a plumbing business in 2006 and grow it from $100k to $4mm annual revenue today, to divest the Industrial Products Business, and to create two other start up businesses:  Worms Connect, the operational software we’ve used to build the plumbing business and Carbon Carma, a vehicle carbon emissions tracking and offset app.  I married up 16 years ago to my wife Kristy and now have 3 children; Sophie (15), Howie (14) and Charlotte (10).  There isn’t a lot of room for hobbies outside of assisting with the Marist middle school football program and being a fan and chauffeur to/from 9th grade swimming & drama productions, 8th grade football, wrestling and baseball, and 5th grade softball, basketball and volleyball.
