The Georgia Department of Transportation is preparing to start a nearly two-year process of hiring contractors for the $1.3 billion job to build express lanes along Georgia 400.

The project — approximately 16 miles of variably priced express lanes between the MARTA North Springs Station to just north of the McFarland Parkway Interchange in Forsyth County — will be awarded to a developer team utilizing a two-step procurement process, GADOT said Oct. 11.
