The Republican-controlled Georgia House of Representatives gave final passage Friday to one of the strictest anti-abortion measures in the country.

House lawmakers voted 92-78 to prohibit abortions in Georgia after a fetal heartbeat is detected, generally about six weeks into pregnancy. That was just one vote more than the 91 required to pass bills in the 180-member chamber.
