The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development approved $652 million of additional funding for Texas to use immediately toward its continued recovery from Hurricane Harvey. Meanwhile, it said rules outlining how to use an additional $4.3 billion in mitigation funding won’t be published until May.

In a conference call on Monday, HUD Secretary Ben Carson and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced approval of the additional funding while encouraging local municipalities and others to apply for it.
