Beth Friedman Darner & Zachary Darner / Kidzz Helping Kidzz

Kidzz Helping Kidzz formed as a result of Zachary Darner’s (age 10) passion to help other kids in need.  His passion developed four years ago, when his then infant brother was quite ill and in the hospital several times.  It was then that Zachary decided to raise 50 new toys to give to children at hospitals in the Puget Sound area, feeling that children should feel safe and cared for while in the hospital during Christmas. He went door-to-door in his neighborhood with flyers about his project. The toy drive exceeded all expectations, and he distributed 259 toys at the hospitals.

The following year, Zachary increased his goal to 1,000 toys. Zachary spoke at Rotary Clubs and schools to get the word out about his toy drive. He set up collection boxes in the community. With the support of the community, he exceeded his goal and raised 1,589 toys!

In 2018, Zachary desired to once again collect toys to take to kids in hospitals unable to be at home for the holidays.  Zachary increased his goal to 5,000 toys.  To support these efforts, Zachary’s mom assisted Zachary with forming Kidzz Helping Kidzz as a nonprofit organization.  55 businesses supported Zachary’s toy drive by allowing him to set up one of his toy collection boxes in their establishment.  Seven kids (ages 7-15) assisted Kidzz Helping Kidzz by sorting toys, going door-to-door to distribute flyers with Zachary, and helped to deliver the toys to the hospitals.  These kids have formally become the Kidzz Helping Kidzz Advisory Board.  Zachary exceeded his goal and raised 5,890 toys which were given to children at Harrison Hospital, Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and Seattle Children’s Hospital.  Kidzz Helping Kidzz also delivered over 200 Easter boxes (hand painted by the Kidzz Helping Kidzz Advisory Board) to ill children with Cancer at Puget Sound area hospitals.

Zachary and the seven children who make up the Kidzz Helping Kidzz Advisory Board are passionate about helping children in need. Each month, they volunteer with the Bremerton Backpack Brigade by helping fill backpacks full of food which are delivered to schools for children who are on the free and reduced lunch program. In an effort to increase literacy among children, our Advisory Board of kids have developed a “story time” at Barnes and Noble. They read to small children and play fun games with the kids to promote a love for reading. Kidzz Helping Kidzz also works with The Coffee Oasis to serve homeless youth.  Zachary and the kids from the Advisory Board bake homemade desserts for the youth and bring board games for a “game night” of fun.

Kidzz Helping Kidzz is now gearing up to raise over 5000 toys to give to children during the Christmas holiday at Harrison Hospital, Seattle Children’s Hospital and Mary Bridge Children’s hospital.  All three hospitals have stated that Kidzz Helping Kidzz is their largest donor of toys.

Kidzz Helping Kidzz is run entirely by the help of volunteers. To help support Kidzz Heling Kidzz, please visit their website at www.kidzzhelpingkidzz.org.  You can donate new toys for kids ages 2-16, contribute financial support or volunteer your time for the organization.
