Kim Karrick / Scratch Distillery

Growing up in Michigan, Kim never imagined going to Michigan State as a marketing/management major would lead to lifting 50 pounds bags of grain, driving a forklift, and creating and selling local, organic, made “from scratch” spirits, would end up being her passion. At Michigan State, after an exchange of a Gin and Tonic, for some crappy beer she was drinking, the relationship of Kim, Bryan and Gin began.  Not to come to fruition until after two and a half decades of working in the grocery industry, Microsoft, auditing, sales, and Bryan’s optometry business, did Kim lock onto the idea of her own distillery.

After brewing beer at home, becoming a wine nerd, and working for Sparkman Cellars on the weekends, the spark of starting a distillery began after going to England twice to visit friends and making the tourist events all about gin.  Kim became fascinated and convinced everyone can like gin, and that it’s mostly about finding the right botanical blend for the right person, which also led to their custom gin making class called GINiology™.

Developing a Spirits Club, and Kim’s inability to curb her artisan spirit, leads her desire to create a wide variety of spirits that her community of customers can choose from.  Four and a half years later Scratch Distillery makes not only vodka and gin, but infused vodkas, bier schnapps, whiskey that sells out before it’s even out of barrel, many “Club Only products”, and the newest addition of an amaro.
