David Nelson / Kitsap Sun

David Nelson is the editor of the Kitsap Sun, a daily newspaper and website covering the West Sound region of the greater Seattle market, and the monthly Kitsap Peninsula Business Journal magazine.

David has led the Sun newsroom since 2009, when he was promoted to the position as the journalism industry’s fundamental challenges had just begun to emerge nationwide. The company has experienced ownership changes, structural business shifts and significant operational moves to adapt to a digital-first model during his tenure, and has prioritized its role as a community connection in the internet era. The Sun and Business Journal now reaches a combined print audience of around 15,000 monthly and digital readership of more than 30,000 unique readers each day, and still bases its operations in the newspaper offices built in the 1940s. This July the publication will celebrate its 85th anniversary.

David is a native of the Pacific Northwest and has degrees from North Park University in Chicago and Boston University.
