Houston’s pension reform package passed the Texas Legislature on May 24 after receiving more than a two-thirds vote in both the House and Senate, according to a press release from Houston City Controller Chris Brown.
The legislation now awaits Gov. Greg Abbott’s signature before it can become law. State statutes regarding the pensions of municipal employees in Texas require such reform receive legislative approval.
